Since 2005 he has focused on the Higher Education sector, setting up and leading innovative degree programmes at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he is responsible for a large teaching team. In particular, he runs the PGCert Performance Teaching programme and other CPD offers to support teachers to develop their practice.

He has worked as a consultant for both UK and multinational companies, running training workshops in Collaborative Leadership and Team-Building skills. He has presented at conferences in the UK and Europe, bringing together his work in the fields of innovative pedagogy, coaching and consulting.

In addition to his Coaching and Mentoring qualification, he holds an MA in psychology and philosophy, a PGCert in Teaching & Learning in Higher & Professional Education, a PGDip in jazz & studio music, and an MFA in Composition & Orchestration for Media. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. Carlos’ background as a professional musician has given him a flexibility that he applies to his coaching practice. Using a variety of approaches and techniques, he responds to clients creatively, often using a strengths-based approach to unlock the client’s resourcefulness.

In Carlos’ words, “My style is kind and compassionate. As a coach, it’s my job to challenge as well as to support, and I seek to do this in a warm and gentle way. As a coach, I help you to identify areas to work on and to set specific goals in relation to those areas. We explore ways to achieve those goals and agree specific actions and next steps.”

Feedback from clients

"You helped me to see some of the situations and feelings I had in new ways and from new perspectives, kind of like zooming out with a camera to see the bigger picture. I now have clear ideas, and this week I have been a lot more proactive and fearless with it all, and generally had more energy."

Jenny (Head Teacher)

“The sessions provided me with a much clearer idea of my key values and skill set, as well as allowing me to improve as a leader - for example, in developing skills in managing difficult conversations."

Jay (School Leader)

"You really set me at ease with your compassion and warmth. You helped me reflect on my own situation and made an overwhelming problem feel a lot more manageable."

Jo (Head of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion)
